The Cornered Soldier

This is a very old tale about a soldier who was separated from his unit on an island during World War 2. What happened was, the war was very intense and in the smoke and the crossfire he lost touch with his squadron. Alone in the jungle and with limited armor, he could hear enemy soldiers coming in his direction. Scrambling for cover, he found his way up a high ridge to several small caves in the rock. Quickly he crawled inside one of the caves. He was safe for the moment, but then he realised that once the enemy soldiers looking for him swept up the ridge, they would quickly search all the caves and he would be found and killed. As he thought, he decided to pray, trembling in fear he said “Lord, please spare my life, Whatever happens, I believe you and trust you, Amen.” After praying, he laid quietly listening to the enemy begin to advance closer. He thought, “Well, I guess the Lord isn’t going to help me out of this one.” Then he saw a spider begin to build a web over the front of his cave. “Hah” he thought, “What I need is a brick wall and what the Lord has sent me is a spider web. God does have a sense of humour.” As the enemy drew closer he watched from the darkness of his hide out and could see them searching one cave after another. As they came to his, he got ready to make his last fight, but then something happened, he heard the leader of the soldiers say: “you may as well ignore looking in this cave …if he had entered here this spider-web would have been broken!” So they left and he was delivered! To his amazement, however, after glancing in the direction of his cave, they moved on. Suddenly he realised that with the spider web over the entrance, his cave looked as if no one had entered for quite a while. Then he said “Lord, forgive me,”. “I had forgotten that with you a spider’s web is stronger than a brick wall”. God works in mysterious ways doesnt he? You see, he uses the most foolish of things in this world to confound the wise! He is indeed our protector if we believe in him. The way of God is foolish to man, trust God and leave things to him, he’ll make a way. Always!! So hey, what’s your worry about? Are you counting your losses instead of counting your gains, are you comparing your life with the ones you see on television or are you ignoring how far you’ve come as a person and dwelling on how little you’ve accomplished compared to people you believe are not better than you, I’ve been there and I’ve done that but guess what? It don’t lead you nowhere..not untill you learn to appreciate the little you have the great wouldn’t come. So in this season of merriment I leave you with this message #live #love & never forget to #laugh merry Christmas and a very prosperous new year to you and yours☺

The Toothpaste Story

Uncle’Zook told us a story about his daughter who was to start middle school tomorrow, A lot of mixed feelings involved now, but no tears yet. We have decorated her locker, bought new uniforms, even surprised her with a brand new Wonder woman backpack (and you know what that does to a young girl). However, tonight just before bed, we do the most important pre-middle school task. I hold out a tube of her favourite toothpaste to her and she grabs it, thinking this is her one golden opportunity to lick toothpaste legally, Her face falls a little when I hand her a medium sized dish and ask her to squirt some toothpaste onto it. The moment she squirts to her heart’s satisfaction, I calmly asked her to put the toothpaste all back in the tube, She begins making dragging noises with her throat, amidst clearly saying, “But I can’t!”and ” it won’t be like it was before! “.

I quietly wait for her to finish and then say this:” You will remember this dish for the rest of your life cupcake. Your words have the power of life and death imbedded in them. As you go into middle school tomorrow, you are about to see just how much weight your words carry, You are going to have the opportunity to use your words to hurt, demean, slander and inflict pain on others. You’re also going to have the opportunity to heal, encourage, inspire and love others. You will occasionally make wrong choices, and it certainly matters how you handle the situation verbally. Remember when I said something really bad to your mummy the other day and she was sad all day baby?”. She gives a tight lipped nod accompanied with her famous evil look. I smile and continue, ” I caused her so much pain. Just like the toothpaste on this dish, once its out, there’s no going back on it, It can never be erased from the sands of time. Use your words carefully princess. When others want to be a careless about what they say, guard your words. Don’t forget you’re my special one. Decide tonight that you’re going to be a life-giver in middle school. Whatever happens, you’re my baby girl and I’m super proud of who you are and what you’re becoming”.

That was one hell of a story, wasn’t it? We have the opportunity to learn alongside my uncles daughter, a lesson no one considers is important to lay emphasis on. It took me making at least three bad word choices this week to the people who matter to me to get to this understanding and I thought to share (because that’s one of the reasons we are a blog). Let’s be the description of gentleness and compassion. Giving life to a world that so desperately needs it in words first. Like we genuinely always say at the mahdheebah brand: live☺, love❤ and laugh😀.

Yours Amazing,
