Eternal life

We are living in a completely brainwashed generation, we have been fooled to believing that life is all about the material wealth you possess, we have been deceived by what we see on television, the lives of the celebrities are all we want to emulate instead of the spiritual life of Jesus Christ our savior.

Life on earth is a temporal assignment, we all are familiar with the affix that “nothing lasts forever”. The bible is full of metaphors that teach about the brief, temporal and transient nature of life on earth. Life is described as a mist, a fast runner, a breath, and a wisp of smoke. The bible says, “For we were born but yesterday…..our days on earth are as transient as a shadow”

To make the best use of your life, you must never forget two truths: first, compared with eternity, life is extremely brief. Second, earth is only a temporary residence. You and I won’t be here too long, so don’t get too attached to material possessions because you met them here and you’ll surely leave them here. You see, what actually matters is the legacy you leave behind, the number of lives you touched on earth, that my friend is the only thing that transcends ages. In the bible, David prayed “lord, help me to realize how brief my life on earth will be. Help me to know that I’m here for but a moment more”.

I find it really interesting how the bible already told us everything about ourselves before we were even conceived, severally it compares life on earth to temporally living in a foreign country this is not your permanent home or final destination. We’re just passing through, just visiting earth.

In Abuja, where I live, many people have moved from other parts of the world to work here, but they keep their citizenship with their home country. They are required to carry a visitor registration card called a “green card” which allows them to work here even though they’re not citizens. We as Christians should carry spiritual green cards to remind us that our citizenship is in heaven.

Earlier I talked about ‘legacy”, legacy in this context talks about the milestones you’ve clinched, the history you’ll leave behind, what you will be remembered for, a lasting legacy is one that will continue to impact lives even when you’re not alive. Nelson Mandela of South Africa left an everlasting legacy in his country and the world at large for emancipating his people and standing up to the oppressors. Martin Luther king of the United States also impacted lives a great deal and it became a legacy that will forever affect the lives of blacks worldwide, he notably stood up against black oppression, slavery and racism.

It is fair to say that the best way to live a lasting legacy is to live a life of service to humanity, standing up for the oppressed and going the extra mile for others even if there is no apparent reward because the real reward is in eternity. Your identity is in eternity, and your homeland is heaven. When you grasp this truth you will stop worrying about “having it all, material possessions on earth” God is very blunt about the dangers of living for the “here and now” and adopting the values, priorities and lifestyles of the world, God calls it spiritual adultery. The bible says, “You are disapproving of God if all you want is your own way and the things of the world, flirting with the world every chance you get, you end up enemies of God and his ways.

Imagine your parents sold all their belongings and struggled so hard to send you to school with the intention that you will do so well and make the family proud but instead, you get influenced negatively by involving with the wrong people, you mix with them so well that you become as they are, you start engaging in fowl activities and end up getting expelled or worse getting in jail, all your parents worked for becomes a waste, all their efforts would be in vain and above all, you would bring an everlasting  seal of disgrace on the family name, you’d be no different from a traitor, you lost focus and conformed to the ways of the world.

The bible says, “We are Christ’s ambassadors” but sadly, many of us have betrayed our king and his kingdom, they have ignorantly concluded that because they live on earth, it’s their home, well hey, it’s not!! The bible was very clear about that “friends, this world is not your home, so don’t make yourselves cozy in it and don’t indulge your ego at the expense of your soul. Those in frequent contact with the things of the world should make good use of them without becoming attached to them, for this world and all it contains will pass away.

We are living in a completely brainwashed generation, we have been fooled to believing that life is all about the material wealth you possess, we have been deceived by what we see on television, the lives of the celebrities are all we want to emulate instead of the spiritual life of Jesus Christ our savior. With all the fascinating attractions mesmerizing media and enjoyable experiences available today, it’s easy to forget that the pursuit of happiness is not what life is about. Only as we remember that life is a test, a trust, and a temporary assignment, we are preparing for something even better. The bible goes on to say “the things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow, but the things we can’t see now will last forever”.

The fact that earth is not our ultimate home explains why, as followers of Jesus, we experience difficulty, sorrow and rejection in this world just as he did. It also explains why some of Gods promises seem unfulfilled, some prayers seem unanswered and some circumstances seem unfair. Well I’m here to tell you this is not the end of the story, in order to keep us from becoming too attached to earth, God allows us to feel a significant amount of discontent and dissatisfaction in life-longings that will never be fulfilled on this side of life. Earth is not our final home, we’re just passing by, we are created for something much better.

Fishes are not happy living in a fish tank, they feels trapped and restricted, give them a chance at open waters and poof! They gone. A bird can never be comfortable living in a cage, they’re created to fly, birds can’t fly in a cage, and that’s why they escape the slightest chance they get.

You should never feel completely satisfied on earth because you were made for more. You will have happy moments here, but nothing compares to what God has planned for you. I couldn’t agree any less with what C.S Lewis said, “All that is not eternal is eternally useless”. The bible says, “We fix our eyes not on what is seen but what is unseen, for what is seen is temporary but what is unseen is eternal.

It is fatal to think Gods goal for you is material prosperity or popular success, as the world defines it, the abundant life has nothing to do with material abundance, and faithfulness to God does not guarantee success in career or even ministry. Never focus on temporary crowns.

Paul was faithful, yet he ended up in prison, john was faithful, yet he was beheaded. It almost seem as though the fate of the righteous ones are always fatal but I stand to tell you dear friend that this only goes to say that here is not your home and you have something better waiting for you in eternity. The bible even told us to rejoice in times of tribulations. People are quick to ask why bad things happen to good people, well look at the life of Jesus, all he did was help and heal people and yet he was crucified but now he’s the king of the world.

You see, the end of life on earth is not the end of life, in Gods eyes the greatest heroes of faith are not those who achieve prosperity, success or power in this life but those who treat this life as a temporary assignment and serve faithfully, expecting their promised reward in eternity. Your time on earth is not the complete story of your life. You must wait until heaven for the rest of the chapters, and before heaven comes judgment.  You will not be dead two seconds before you begin to question yourself “why did I place so much importance on things that were so temporal, what was I thinking, why did I waste so much time, energy and concern on what wasn’t going to last”.

When life gets tough, when you’re overwhelmed by doubt or when you wonder if living for Christ is worth it, just remember you’re not home yet. At death you won’t leave home, you’ll go home!! So live life not for yourself alone but for others, pass the test of life and make it to heaven where was meant for you and gather memories that will go with you anywhere.

Men Unalike

God doesn’t call the perfect, he perfects the called!!!

I feel obligated  to say something about this topic and set it straight, it’s really sad when I see or hear people, young girls especially talking about how all men are the same, though nobody ever said it to me. I’m usually not one to judge anybody for any reason whatsoever but I observed the sort of girls who say that are those who are quick to jump into any kind of relationship that throws itself their way, without any evaluation, or assessment, thinking  is this the right person for me?, is this who God has ordained for me.

It’s really unjust and erroneously judgmental to call all men equal or the same because God made everybody uniquely in his own image. You can’t classify powerful men of God in the same level as these basic materialistic men you flock around, you just can’t.

Recently I read a book “how to be a powerful Christian woman” by Joyce Mayer (don’t judge me), and she talked about how her husband helped her find and establish herself, how he’s heaven sent and unlike most. That’s a relationship built on a Godly foundation. I read another book by Shaunti Feldhahn and Lisa a. Rice titled “for young women only” (again, don’t judge me) this book was basically written as a hack to help girls know the deepest secrets of boys, and how ‘they’ think.  A part of the book read “although guys look confident, they are often insecure in themselves, worry that they will be found out, and are therefore drawn to girls who help them feel like they measure up”. HA! How false, it’s not human nature to feel insecure, one only feels insecure only when they have a reason to feel that way.

Let me share a message I read from Kaliburius S. Bigelow. He said, Ladies be careful of the men you let into your heart and enter your body, sex is not only a physical exchange, It Is also a spiritual exchange. Sex is powerful and a direct pathway into your temple. Some of you can’t get over that low life of a man because the demons he carries within him still torment you spiritually. You know in your gut that even though he looks attractive something about him ain right. Yet, something keeps luring you to him. Your mind and body wrestles back and forth with spiritual principalities and “sexual soul ties”. You see, sexual soul ties bind you to that man, men his type and dark spirits that follow him. Some women often wonder why the same type of men always pursue them, why they attract the same type of guy after they got rid of the scum bag that plagued their life, it’s that familiar spirit he left with you!! BE CAREFUL who you open yourself up to receive. If he ain prayed up, don’t be laid up.

It’s really easy to comprehend you see, if you think all guys are the same it’s probably because your spirit has been attracting the same kind of men. The good thing however is that you can change that if you put God first and pause on men. And also, when choosing a partner choose one who is good for you, not good for your parents, not good for your image, not good for your bank account, but choose someone that is going to make your life emotionally fulfilling and spiritually sound. Make sure you get somebody who can rekindle your fire if ever it goes out.

Roxanne told me that so many good women have dealt with the wrong men and so many good men have dealt with the wrong women that by the time they both finally meet, they’re afraid of each other.  Sadly that’s so true, but it all comes down to you, if they look great but don’t love Jesus why should you be interested in a relationship? You should pray for them and lead them to Jesus not ignore their spiritual life and try to date them to Jesus. (Godly dating 101). I respect those who know how difficult being single can be, yet don’t rush the process, it’s not that you can’t find someone, you just need to understand that your singleness has a purpose, so love yourself but not in the self absorbed conceited way and seek God’s will. It’s easy to jump at every opportunity we get, but we have to remember what God has planned is better than what we could ever think of. God hasn’t forgotten you and if you doubt that, remember what Jesus told peter in john 13-7? “You do not realize now what I am doing but later you will understand”. So do you trust God?

I feel like now is a good time to say this, I was going to do a whole different post on this but now feels like a perfect time, I desperately want everybody to understand that there is a difference between Testing God and Trying God. What most of us do is test God, let me differentiate; testing God is what the devil tried to make Jesus do when he took him up to the mountain and told him to jump in matt4:6, trying God was what Jesus did when he told his disciples the multitude did not need to return home for food, and he blessed the five loaves of bread and two fishes and fed five thousand men aside women and children. Testing God is when you have an exam and you say God is control so you don’t read (you will woefully fail), trying God is when you read as much as you physically can and hand over the rest to God. You see how the bible tags the holy spirit as our helper, notice it didn’t call him the initiator, so what you don’t initiate he can’t help, he can’t even get involved if you don’t start! A synonym for “test” is challenge, why on earth would you want to challenge God? Most of us don’t get the healing or breakthrough we’ve been praying for because of the way we present it to God, you can’t say stuff like let me see if God can do this or use him as one of your alternatives, you go to herbalist, you go to native doctors hell you even visit babalawo (for my Nigerian people), then you now go to church to test God also. It can’t work that way, while TRYING God you make use of the fundamental traits of a Christian, “Faith&Belief”, while TESTING God however we imply Doubt&Arrogance.

Let me round off this article with a message Brook sent to me from CA. I found this rather funny than informative but you be the judge “To all the girls who are in a hurry to have a boyfriend or get married, a piece of biblical advise” Ruth patiently waited for her mate Boaz. So while waiting for your Boaz don’t settle for any of his relatives, Broke-az, cheap-az, lockedup-az, goodfornothing-az, lazy-az, and especially his third cousin Beatinyo-az. Wait for your Boaz and make sure he respects Yoaz!!

The message I’m trying to pass here is, whoever you are and from wherever you might be, your sin is not too great, you’re not the first person to do wrong, even in the bible Jacob cheated, peter had an affair, Noah got drunk, Jonah ran from God, Moses committed murder, Gideon was insecure, Miriam gossiped, Martha worried, Thomas doubted, sarah was impatient, Elijah was moody, zacchaeus was short, Abraham was old, lazarus was dead so you see, God doesn’t call the perfect he perfects the called!. I hope I have been able to share a little of my insight to you.

THE WOMAN OF PROVERBS (the poem)

Nancy Rathburn made it clear that “A strong woman understands that the gifts such as logic, decisiveness, and strength are just as feminine as intuition and emotional connection. She values and uses all of her gifts, using the book of proverbs, from 1-31, I wrote this poem to overemphasize the traits of a strong and powerful woman. Enjoy 🙂

The woman of proverbs is an exclamation of a strong woman poised by the wisdom, strength and grace of God.

The woman of Proverbs is one whose law should never be forsaken,

Likened not unto the whorish woman that bringeth a man to a common piece of bread,

Neither is she the adulteress who hunts for a precious life,

But a virtuous Woman who is a crown to her husband and far from the rottenness in his bones,

Contrary to a foolish woman who is clamorous and is simple and knoweth nothing,

She is gracious and retaineth honor,

Wisdom hath she built her house with,

Because it is written “a wise woman buildeth her house, but the other plucketh it down with her own hands”

Her worth goes miles beyond that of rubies,

Surely who so findeth the woman of Proverbs doth find a good thing.

For a man, is it not better to dwell in the corner of the housetop than with a brawling woman in a mansion?

Is it not better to dwell in the wilderness than with a contentious and angry woman?

For can a man take fire in his bosom and his clothes not be burned?

The woman of Proverbs puteth away an already started fire,

She eateth not the bread of idleness, for she seeketh flax and wool and worketh willingly with her hands.

The woman of Proverbs is from the lord,

She is like the merchant ship,

Well blend she bringeth her food from afar,

With infinite bliss she riseth while it is yet dark and prepareth meat for her household living not her maidens,

Surely whoso findeth the woman of Proverbs findeth a good thing.

She openeth her mouth with wisdom and in her tongue dwells the law of kindness,

Bounds does her hands know not as she stretcheth it out to the poor and reaches forth to the needy,

Sickness befalls not her household because she clothed them with scarlet in anticipation for the season of winter.

Surely who so findeth the woman of Proverbs findeth a good thing.

The mouth of a strange woman is as a deep pit,

But the woman of Proverbs openeth her mouth with wisdom,

Many daughters have done virtuously,

But the woman of proverbs excellest them all,

Strength and honor are her clothing,

She shall rejoice in time to come,

Just as thy father and mother shall be glad and rejoice that they bare thee,

Her children arise and call her blessed,

Her husband riseth and renders praise unto her,

Whyfore he not?

When it is written,

That favour is deceitful and beauty is vain, But a woman that feareth the lord shall be praised (prov 31:30)

Verily I say unto you,

Whoso findeth “you” The Woman of Proverbs, Findeth a Good Thing and Obtaineth Unphantomed Favour from God.
